Gervonta Davis’ latest legal concern is going to bring him back into court.

Davis, 31, was accused by his ex-girlfriend of battery, false imprisonment and attempted kidnapping on Oct. 27, 2025, when he allegedly grabbed and dragged her out of a gentlemen’s club, where she worked as a dancer, and into the parking lot.

A Miami judge has now cleared the civil lawsuit to move forward in court, the Baltimore Sun reported on Wednesday.

Davis’ ex-girlfriend, revealed to be Courtney Rossel, is seeking $5 million in damages. Her legal team has since dropped the false imprisonment charges, per the Baltimore Sun.

Davis was previously arrested for the incident by the Miami Gardens Police in January and was quickly released on bond. His official arrest concluded a two-week-long search that involved US Marshals after police reported him missing.

The judge’s decision came one day after Davis filed a countersuit, claiming the plaintiff initiated the argument that eventually turned physical. ‘Tank’ claims she attempted to extort him after filing the lawsuit and notes in his case that the whole ordeal cost him a lucrative fight with Jake Paul.

At the time of the lawsuit, Davis and Paul were scheduled to headline a massive Netflix fight card in November 2025. Neither fighter’s purse was released, but it was fully expected to be the biggest payday of Davis’ career, despite it trending toward being an exhibition.

The lawsuit convinced Most Valuable Promotions to remove Davis from the matchup, given its position as the most powerful women’s boxing promotion. He was quickly replaced by former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, who handed Paul his first stoppage loss in the sixth round.

Judge makes Gervonta Davis ruling as incriminating footage is released

The ruling also came one day after Rossel’s legal team released the security footage that convinced investigators to obtain the initial arrest warrant. The incriminating evidence was released to the public by TMZ Sports.

The footage is another major obstacle for Davis’ case, as it shows him aggressively grabbing Rossel and forcing her out into the parking lot. While there is no audio and the boxer did not appear to strike his ex-girlfriend, the clips certainly appear to fall in line with the accusations.

Davis has not made any public comments beyond statements from his legal team since the footage was released. His case is expected to proceed in Miami-Dade court soon, with an official

The future of Gervonta Davis currently remains up in the air but that hasn’t stopped an undefeated fighter from calling him out.

It’s been over a year since ‘Tank’ was last in action, when he defended his WBA lightweight title in a controversial majority decision draw against Lamont Roach.

A fight between Floyd Schofield and Lucas Bahdi for the vacant WBA title was believed to be targeted for April, but Schofield recently claimed that the fight was cancelled, potentially paving the way for ‘Kid Austin’ to meet Davis instead.Gervonta Davis

Speaking in a social media clip, Schofield discussed the current situation, insisting he would be happy to face ‘Tank’ if it unfolds that way.

Schofield has an unbeaten record of 19-0 with 13 wins coming by way of knockout and has been touted for big things in the sport. He had notably been set to face Shakur Stevenson for the WBC lightweight title last year before withdrawing from the bout on fight week through illness.

Despite the callout from Schofield, Davis has been reported to be in advanced talks with Isaac Cruz for his next outing, in what would be a rematch of their battle from 2021.

Gervonta “Tank” Davis has gone on the offensive in the legal arena. The undefeated lightweight star filed a countersuit seeking more than $20 million in damages against Courtney Rossel, the ex-girlfriend who accused him of domestic violence at a Miami gentlemen’s club last October, according to an exclusive report from TMZ Sports published on March 30.

Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) denied nearly all allegations in the civil complaint, maintaining that he never struck or choked Rossel and did not falsely imprison her. In his answer to the lawsuit, Davis characterized the situation as a calculated shakedown, alleging that Rossel demanded $1.1 million to make the accusations disappear. He further claimed that Rossel was the initial aggressor and that she provoked the encounter as part of a scheme designed to extract money from him.

Perhaps most striking among the countersuit’s claims is Davis’ assertion that the two spent the night together at Rossel’s home after the alleged attack, and that Rossel told her employer she was fine following the incident.

The Financial Fallout: A Lost Megafight

The countersuit’s central argument centers on a legal theory of interference with business relationship. Davis contends that Rossel’s civil lawsuit, filed in late October 2025, directly caused the cancellation of what would have been the biggest payday of his career: a November exhibition bout against Jake Paul at Miami’s Kaseya Center, originally set to stream on Netflix.

Davis claims he stood to earn more than $20 million from the Paul fight, which was scrapped shortly after Rossel’s allegations became public. Paul quickly pivoted to a replacement bout against former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua on December 19 at the same venue. Joshua stopped Paul by sixth-round knockout in front of a sold-out crowd of 19,600, an event that ranked as the top program on Netflix in 45 countries, according to the streamer.

Both Joshua and Paul earned substantial paydays from the replacement bout, while Davis, sidelined by the legal fallout, received nothing.

The Accuser’s Response

Rossel’s legal team wasted no time. Her attorneys have already filed a motion to dismiss the counterclaim, arguing that Davis cannot sue her for reporting an alleged crime. The motion is a signal that this legal battle will be contested aggressively on both sides.

The dueling civil claims now run parallel to Davis’ ongoing criminal case in Florida. Davis was arrested on January 28 after a weeks-long search involving U.S. Marshals and a multi-county surveillance operation. He was released on $16,000 bond and ordered to stay away from both Rossel and the Miami Gardens establishment where the alleged incident took place.

Criminal Charges Still Loom

While the false imprisonment charge was dropped on March 27 after prosecutors determined it was redundant, Davis still faces two criminal charges: felony attempted kidnapping and misdemeanor battery. The charges stem from an October 27, 2025 incident at Tootsies Cabaret in Miami Gardens, where Rossel, a dancer at the club, told police that Davis grabbed her by the hair and throat and attempted to force her out of the building. Police reviewed surveillance footage and determined that the evidence supported the issuance of an arrest warrant.

The criminal case exists separately from any civil claims. According to CBS Sports, Miami Gardens Police Executive Officer Emmanuel Jeanty stated during a January press conference that the investigation determined Davis used force in an attempt to remove the victim from the location against her will.

Davis also faces a separate warrant from Baltimore for allegedly violating probation tied to a 2020 hit-and-run that injured four people, including a pregnant woman. A Baltimore judge issued that warrant in early February.

A Pattern and a Career in Limbo

The current case is the latest in a lengthy history of legal entanglements for Davis. He was arrested in Broward County in 2022 on domestic violence charges, was accused of striking the mother of his children in July 2025, and was captured on video in 2020 appearing to grab an ex-girlfriend by the neck at a charity basketball game. Charges in the prior domestic violence cases were either dropped or dismissed when the alleged victims declined to cooperate with prosecutors.

The boxing consequences have been severe. The WBA reclassified Davis from active lightweight champion to “champion in recess” in January 2026, effectively stripping him of the title he had held since 2023. His inactivity in the ring now stretches past a year, with his last official bout being the majority decision draw against Lamont Roach on March 1, 2025 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Reports surfaced earlier this month that Davis is in discussions for a summer rematch with Isaac Cruz at super lightweight on Prime Video pay-per-view, but whether a fighter facing a felony attempted kidnapping charge can realistically secure a commission license remains an open question.

For Davis, the countersuit represents an attempt to reframe the narrative around his legal troubles, casting himself as the victim of an extortion attempt rather than the aggressor. Whether a judge and, potentially, a jury see it that way will depend on evidence that has yet to be fully tested in open court. What is beyond dispute is that the fighter who once appeared destined to inherit Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s throne as boxing’s biggest attraction is now fighting battles that no amount of ring skill can resolve.

Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury’s all-time great trilogy took something from the British fighter, according to the American puncher’s former coach, Malik Scott, who talked to Action Network about his former pupil’s rivalry, and his return to the ring on Saturday, April 4 at the 02 Arena in London atop Misfits Pro card on DAZN.

Wilder and Fury fought thrice from 2018 to 2021, sharing a disputed split draw in Los Angeles, before Fury took control with wins in the sequel and trilogy bout, and edging him 5-3 in combined knockdowns across the fights, too.

Since the last of their fights, Wilder is 2 (2 KOs) against 2 defeats (1 KO). Fury, meanwhile, is 3-2 (2 KOs). Neither has really bounced back with aplomb.

For Scott, the Fury from the Wilder saga was the not the same Tyson as the one who stepped through the ropes ahead of, and during, his two losses to Oleksandr Usyk.

“The power actually feels scary, and it’s a serious thing,” said Scott. “Tyson Fury felt it the worst because he had to deal with it with 10-ounce gloves on, being hit by Wilder, getting knocked down, getting up with his equilibrium disturbed, and continuing to fight, and then getting knocked down again. And that happened to him, not in just one fight, but in two fights, repeatedly got knocked down by Wilder. And that’s not even counting the punches that landed that he didn’t go down from.Tyson Fury

“So he’s just not the same man, but I knew he wasn’t the same man when he gave Usyk two good fights. I knew he wasn’t the same man when he stopped Dillian Whyte.”

Wilder returns this weekend for his fight against Chisora riding the momentum of a win, having finished Tyrrell Anthony Herndon in the seventh round. Scott predicts another victory in England.

He continued: “If Deontay, who’s the hardest puncher in the history of the sport in my opinion, cracked Derek coming in, Derek goes to sleep.

“If Derek can stay in Deontay’s chest and attempt to drown him and take him into deep waters and drown him, if Deontay doesn’t knock him out, then it could be a long night for Deontay,” said Scott.

“I think Deontay Wilder wins by knockout early.”

Gervonta Davis has seen the felony charge of false imprisonment against him dismissed months after he was detained over a domestic abuse allegation.

The boxing star, 31, was finally arrested at the end of January following a two-week police search in connection to an alleged incident that occurred at a Miami Gardens strip club in October 2025.Gervonta Davis

Officials first put out an arrest warrant for Davis on January 14 after he was charged with misdemeanor battery, felony attempted kidnapping and felony false imprisonment over the bombshell accusations made by a South Florida dancer, which brought his planned mega-fight against Jake Paul crashing down.

According to TMZ, authorities have now dismissed the false imprisonment charge after deeming it redundant. The kidnapping and battery charges still remain.

The woman, who police chose to keep anonymous, said she had an intimate relationship with the former three-weight world champion which ended around a month before the incident. She subsequently cut off communication with Davis following the split.

She accused him of approaching her while she was working at the establishment around 4:15am local time one evening last October.Gervonta Davis

The woman alleged that he ‘grabbed her by the back of her head, pulling her by the hair with one hand and by her throat with another.’

She told officers that Davis, while still maintaining his grip on the back of her head, then ‘forcefully escorted her’ down a stairway and into a parking garage.

After reaching the parking area, he is said to have finally released her before the woman ran to her co-workers for help. Two days later, she went to the police station to report the incident.

She reported some minor injuries including bruising to her left arm. Police said that detectives had obtained video footage ‘that corroborates key elements of the victim’s statements.’

The alleged victim also sued Davis over the altercation back in October, which derailed the fight against Paul that was scheduled for November.

The complaint detailed at least four previous altercations, including two in which Davis allegedly threatened to kill her.

One confrontation reportedly occurred on September 2, after she failed to respond to messages from the boxer.Gervonta Tank Davis

Another took place on September 23, when Davis allegedly accused her of infidelity, sent a text threatening to kill her, and then assaulted her at a restaurant.

The lawsuit said that the woman is now undergoing therapy for post-traumatic stress and anxiety and is living with others out of fear for her safety. She is seeking compensatory and punitive damages and has requested a jury trial.

The alleged attack was the latest in a long line of legal issues for the boxer. In July, Davis had been arrested on a battery charge that was later dropped by another ex-girlfriend.

He has previously faced a host of legal issues, including domestic violence allegations and a 2023 hit-and-run conviction in Baltimore that resulted in 90 days of home detention and three years of probation.

Gevonta Davis has not won a fight since June 2024 but remains as the WBA’s champion-in-recess. Now, the man hoping to succeed Davis as WBA champion has demanded that the Baltimore-born fighter is removed from that position.

Davis drew with Lamont Roach Jr in his lone outing of 2025, meaning that he has not won a contest since knocking out Frank Martin almost two years ago. However, out-of-ring issues are largely behind the inactivity of the 31-year-old, which have led to him losing his WBA lightweight world title.

Davis has been named as the champion-in-recess rather than stripped entirely, meaning that he could be reinstated as full champion in the future or mandated to fight any new champion upon his return.

Gervonta Tank Davis

It had been believed that number one contender Floyd Schofield, ‘Kid Austin’, would take on either Lucas Bahdi or Roach in a clash for the now-vacant belt, but an announcement has yet to take place.

Posting on X, Schofield has spoken out and demanded that the WBA strip Davis of his title or mandate a fight between he and ‘Tank’.

Schofield’s outburst, combined with the delayed confirmation of a bout to determine a new champion, could potentially be a sign that Davis may soon be reinstated as champion, with a pending court case expected to determine how soon before ‘Tank’ returns to action.

Unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has said Anthony Joshua requires more time to return to peak condition and the right mental state ahead of his comeback fight.

The former two-time unified heavyweight champion has recently been training with Usyk and his team in Ukraine.

Speaking to Boxing World, Usyk revealed that medical advice has indicated Joshua still needs additional time to fully recover.

“I think he’s getting better from what I see, Anthony is training well, but the doctor says, ‘please, take it slowly, not too fast yet. Take your time’.

Anthony Joshua

“So physically he’s good, but he needs more time to fully heal.

“Mentally, I think he’s good too, because we talk every day. We train twice a day, morning and evening, and we’re always talking constantly.

“I tell him, he can talk to me when he needs to. Listen, I know Anthony, he’s a champion. Yes, right now he doesn’t have the belts, but for me that doesn’t matter.

“A champion is not always the one who has the belts.

“A champion is a man who lives right, who works, who looks to the future and says, ‘yes, I can. I will work and never give up’.”

Joshua was involved in a car crash that took the lives of two of his closest friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami. Being so close to death rightfully shook AJ, leading to him making a very introspective comment about his late friends in the aftermath: “One day my time will come and I’m not scared either at all. It’s actually comforting knowing I got two brothers on the other side.”

Anthony Joshua

Rumors quickly surfaced regarding Joshua’s future, with a retirement from boxing fully on the table for the 36-year-old. Joshua hasn’t confirmed anything yet, although his promoter, Eddie Hearn, claims a summer tune-up fight could be followed by a mega-bout agains Tyson Fury at the end of 2026.

Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua have developed close friendship outside of boxing ring

Meanwhile, Joshua has been spending time with heavyweight legend Oleksandr Usyk in the latter’s native country of Ukraine. Despite having lost twice to Usyk in the ring, Joshua linked up with Team Usyk initially ahead of his bout with Paul last December. Now, the two have connected again on Usyk’s home turf, as the heavyweight champion prepares for his fight against Rico Verhoeven.

Joshua has considered Usyk as a “brother“, with their newfound friendship somewhat of a surprise to many. But there’s a mutual respect there that goes beyond the ring. That was very apparent during a moment where a member of Usyk’s endeavor gifted Joshua a custom new phone.

Anthony Joshua

The Ukrainian teased AJ, saying that he noticed Joshua was using an old phone. With that in mind, he gifted Joshua a “special present“, which was a custom platinum phone. It showed that Joshua and Usyk are on the same wavelength, with big things planned for 2026.

Gervonta Davis has revealed his most powerful opponent in a professional ring, admitting that each attack “felt like bricks” were being launched at his head.

The American has not fought since his highly-contentious draw with Lamont Roach in March 2025, when many felt he was fortunate to retain his WBA world lightweight title.

Gervonta Tank Davis

This was largely because ‘Tank’ chose to take a knee in round nine, only for referee Steve Willis not to rule it as a knockdown.

A 10-8 round, however, would have seen Roach score a sizable upset by dethroning Davis, whose reputation has since been drenched in controversy on account of him being arrested for domestic violence.

Prior to that, ‘Tank’ was supposed to face Jake Paul in an exhibition match last November, only to be removed from the event over allegations of false imprisonment, battery and attempted kidnapping.

It now remains unclear whether the 31-year-old will return to action, yet there is far more certainty when it comes to who hit him the hardest in a professional ring.Gervonta Tank Davis

Speaking with Fight Hype, Davis insisted that Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero, the current WBA welterweight champion, deserves to be credited for possessing such power.

Romero squared off with Davis back in 2022, suffering a sixth-round stoppage defeat in their lightweight encounter, but has since reinvented himself as a sturdy champion at 147lbs.

The American’s unanimous decision victory over Ryan Garcia, in May 2025, saw him capture the WBA ‘Regular’ title, before being upgraded to full champion later that year.

Davis, meanwhile, has been made WBA lightweight ‘champion in recess’ due to his inactivity and legal troubles.

Tyson Fury has confirmed that a showdown with Anthony Joshua remains his priority fight after his comeback against Arslanbek Makhmudov next month, describing the all-British heavyweight clash as the biggest fight in boxing and saying he would take the chance to knock out his long-time rival over winning another world title,

Anthony Joshua & Tysoon Fury

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of his April 11 return against Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Fury was unambiguous about his intentions.

“Of course, if it’s a fight to be made, let’s get it done. Let me get Makhmudov out the way, and we’re on. They’re all options because nothing’s promised. The biggest fight for me in world boxing and the biggest fight in the world of boxing is me versus AJ. Even today, even after all these years, it’s still the biggest fight in boxing, it’s still the biggest fight,” he said.

Fury also revealed that while Joshua topped his wishlist, a trilogy fight with Oleksandr Usyk or a world title clash with either Fabio Wardley or Daniel Dubois were also on his radar.

Anthony Joshua

“After that, for me, it would be me versus Usyk, or the winner of them two. Three-time world champion’s pretty good, it’s got a good ring to it. But being a five-time world champion or the chance to knock AJ out, I’d take the chance to knock AJ out. Because once you’ve won all the belts before, which I have, it’s always nice to be a world champion, great. But it’s not the be-all and end-all. I think the fans are more interested in me and Joshua in the street rather than another world title,” he said.

The development comes as Joshua steps up his own preparations for a summer comeback. The British-Nigerian boxer, who stopped Jake Paul in six rounds in Miami in December before being involved in a horror car crash in Nigeria 10 days later that claimed the lives of his friends, personal trainer Kevin Ayodele and recovery therapist Sina Ghami, has returned to full training camp and was recently spotted working alongside Usyk and trainer Iegor Golub.Tyson Fury

Promoter Eddie Hearn had earlier this week rejected reports that a Joshua-Fury fight was already signed, insisting there was “absolutely nothing agreed,” though he acknowledged that deep conversations about the bout had taken place before the accident.

Hearn has targeted a Joshua ring return in July, with Dillian Whyte among the names circulating as a potential warm-up opponent.

Usyk, meanwhile, is preparing for his WBC heavyweight title defence against Dutch kickboxer Rico Verhoeven in Egypt at the Giza necropolis, and has stated he intends to fight just twice more, including a trilogy bout with Fury.
