Robert Garcia, who trained Anthony Joshua for his rematch against Oleksandr Usyk, has predicted that Joshua will knock Tyson Fury out cold in their anticipated heavyweight showdown, provided the British fighter arrives mentally ready.

Garcia, speaking with ESNEWS, said Joshua possesses both the skill and the power to beat Fury, pointing to his right hand as the decisive weapon in the contest.

“If AJ is mentally ready, I think that AJ has the skills and the power to win. He has the right hand to knock him out, but he has got to be mentally and physically 100 per cent. Physically, I know that he is always ready — AJ is always in shape. He trains hard and was dedicated when I was with him,” Garcia said.Anthony Joshua

He cautioned, however, that Fury’s unpredictability made him a persistent threat regardless of his conditioning.

The former trainer was unambiguous about how the fight ends if Joshua connects cleanly.

“With that right hand, if AJ lands, he will knock him out cold. And he gets hit with a lot of right hands,” he said.

The Joshua-Fury fight has been agreed and is targeted for October, with Wembley Stadium the preferred venue according to Fury’s promoter Frank Warren, who confirmed it would be streamed on Netflix.

The bout is contingent on Joshua coming through his scheduled warm-up fight against Albania’s Kristian Prenga on July 25 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Garcia handled Joshua’s corner for his second fight with Usyk after the Londoner suffered defeat under his previous trainer, Rob McCracken. Joshua has since worked with Derrick James, Ben Davison and, most recently, Iegor Golub, who also coaches Usyk, for his bout against Jake Paul and is expected to remain with Golub for the Prenga and Fury fights.

Deontay Wilder will not lament missing out on a potential bout with Anthony Joshua once again.

America’s Wilder, the former WBC world heavyweight champion, had been floated as a possible opponent for AJ this summer by Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn.

Hearn, head of Matchroom Boxing, suggested they would consider Joshua boxing Wilder before fighting Tyson Fury later on in 2026.

Joshua will box next in July, but that will come against unheralded Albanian Kristian Prenga in Riyadh rather than Wilder.

Shelly Finkel, the American’s manager, is adamant that Wilder has not been frustrated by missing out on fighting Joshua this summer.Deontay Wilder

“Eddie never reached out to us and Joshua obviously had no intention of fighting Deontay Wilder.

Joshua and Wilder have been close to reaching an agreement in the past.

Back in 2019, when their bout would have been for the undisputed heavyweight world champion, it seemed briefly inevitable, only for Joshua to lose to Andy Ruiz, a defeat which AJ would go on to avenge.

More recently they boxed on the same bill when Joshua took out Otto Wallin in 2023. Only on that occasion Wilder slipped up and unexpectedly lost to Joseph Parker.

Wilder boxed in the UK earlier this month when he defeated Derek Chisora and will look for further opportunities.

The American has also been linked to a potential fight with unified heavyweight champion Oleksander Usyk.

LAS VEGAS – Premier Boxing Champions heads to the summer with the intention of crowning a three-division champion and to present a slate of compelling fight cards.

The promotion headed by Al Haymon will bring former three-belt welterweight champion Errol Spence Jnr back from a near three-year hiatus for a July 25 Prime Video pay-per-view junior-middleweight bout against former 154lbs champion Tim Tszyu in Tszyu’s home country, Australia.

PBC will stage a news conference featuring Spence and Tszyu Saturday morning at MGM Grand before it sends two-division champion David Benavidez, 31-0 (25 KOs), to face unified cruiserweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez at T-Mobile Arena.

Meanwhile, BoxingScene learned Friday that PBC is expecting a summer card – perhaps as soon as June – headed by Lamont Roach Jnr versus former lightweight title challenger William Zepeda.

Co-promoted like Saturday’s card with PBC and Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions representing the given fighters, Roach-Zepeda offers the WBC’s top two contenders, with the winner left in prime position to claim the vacant title.Gervonta Davis

Roach, 25-1-3 (10 KOs), is coming off consecutive disputed draws versus Gervonta “Tank” Davis and Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz, and Zepeda, 33-1 (27 KOs), suffered his first loss in July to unbeaten four-division champion Shakur Stevenson.

While exercising caution on the timing, PBC is aiming for the legally troubled three-division champion Davis, 30-0-1 (28 KOs), to return to the ring by the early fall.

It would be the Baltimore fighter’s first bout since his WBA lightweight title fight draw at New York’s Barclays Center versus Roach, who was deprived of a knockdown (and victory) by referee Steve Willis.

Although De La Hoya on Friday strongly proposed unbeaten and WBA top-ranked contender Floyd Schofield for a Davis bout, another official more connected to the PBC situation said Mexico’s former 140lbs champion Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz is the most likely opponent at this hour.

WBC interim 140lbs champion Cruz, 28-3-2 (18 KOs), fought Davis to a tightly contested unanimous decision loss as a 2021 replacement opponent in Los Angeles.

Gervonta Davis’ comeback could soon become clear as “real talks” with an opponent are set to be occurring “very soon”.

The 31-year-old has not fought since March 2025, when he retained his WBA world lightweight title with a controversial draw against Lamont Roach.

Since then, ‘Tank’ has been made ‘champion in recess’ by the WBA, largely because of his inactivity but also due to allegations of domestic violence.

Such accusations, which were made by his ex-partner, Courtney Rossel, resulted in Davis being removed from his cancelled exhibition match with Jake Paul last November.

More recently, though, the Baltimore man has teased a ring return, naming Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz – who he unanimously outpointed in 2021 – as a possible opponent at 140lbs.Gervonta Davis

If, however, he wishes to reclaim his old WBA title, then Davis will likely be ordered to face the sanctioning body’s No.1 contender at 135lbs, Floyd Schofield.

In pursuit of the ‘Tank’ fight, the father and trainer of ‘Kid Austin’, Schofield Sr, has claimed there are ongoing talks for the pair to collide in July.

Golden Boy boss Oscar De La Hoya has confirmed those talks in media huddle with Fight Hub TV, but also debated whether the 23-year-old, who he promotes, is ready for such a formidable challenge.

Schofield has not fought since last June, when a career-best victory thus far came via a first-round demolition of former world champion Tevin Farmer.

It may not be long before one of American boxing’s best-known fighters, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, makes his return to the ring.

Through his pay-per-view headline appearances from 2020 to 2025, fighting the likes of Leo Santa Cruz in his box office debut to breaking the 1 million sales barrier with Ryan Garcia, and then joining Prime Video alongside Premier Boxing Champions after Showtime Sports dissolved, ‘Tank’ generated almost 3 million combined sales and approximately $220 million. By the time of his draw with Lamont Roach Jr. in 2025, he was continuing his claim as one of the sport’s faces.

But since Roach added the blemish on Tank’s record, Roach, Davis has faced and arrest in 2026 on battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping charges tied to an alleged incident from October the prior year, a related civil lawsuit alleging assault, and a probation-violation warrant from a prior hit-and-run case, according to ESPN and other reports.

His apparent issues away from the ring compromised his status inside of it, surrendering momentum as a face to his rivals, who are seemingly more scandal-free, like Shakur Stevenson, among others.

But this summer he could make his comeback.

That is, according to 23-year-old lightweight fighter Floyd ‘Kid Austin’ Schofield.

“God is so good,” Schofield finished.

The boxer, who Golden Boy Promotions represents, has a formidable record of 19-0 (13 KOs) and scored the most notable win of his career last summer — a first-round knockout of Tevin Farmer.

There should be few obstacles in booking the fight, even though Tank is with Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions.

This is because PBC and Golden Boy seemingly have a prosperous relationship of late, coming together to make Mario Barrios vs Ryan Garcia, and also Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez against David Benavidez.

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are projected to earn approximately $100 million (£75m–£100m+) each for their single, long-awaited heavyweight showdown.

This fight is considered the biggest in British boxing history, likely to be staged in the Middle East with a 50-50 purse split for the first fight.

The fight will hold in the fourth quarter of 2026 with the announcement coming from Saudi power broker Turki Alalshikh on Monday afternoon.

After several false starts, most notably in 2021 when the two men both signed a two-fight deal only to have the plan scuppered in a courtroom by Deontay Wilder, there are no longer any barriers.

You would be hard pressed to argue this fight is not happening five years too late – back then both Fury (35-2-1) and Joshua (29-4) were at the peak of their powers and both held world heavyweight titles. Then it would have been an absolute undisputed humdinger for all the marbles.

“The Gypsy King” has earned an absolute fortune and the right to spend a happy retirement on the Isle of Man with wife Paris and their seven children. There was only one bout, which had enough meat to tempt him back to the table – that long-awaited Joshua showdown.

For AJ too this is the perfect retirement plan, it comes hot on the heels of his £50million payday for knocking out YouTuber Jake Paul.

Joshua of course has had other issues to deal with in recent months – notably the tragic car crash, which claimed the lives of two of his closest friends and team members in Nigeria in December. AJ would escape relatively unharmed from a physical perspective, but who can know the mental scars which may remain.

AJ will himself have a warmup fight ahead of his meeting with Fury, and his team have taken no chances with the choice of opponent. He will face little-known Albanian Kristian Prenga (20-1) in Riyadh on July 25.

Make no mistake, Joshua vs Prenga is not intended to be a stiff test for AJ, it is a tune-up with little risk, this is no time to fumble that enormous bag.

Fury is a slight 4/7 favourite with AJ a 7/5 underdog as that massive showdown looms later this year and it is a fight laced with danger for both men.

Joshua was a defensive disaster waiting to happen when he was blasted out of Wembley Stadium by Daniel Dubois in his last major heavyweight outing in September 2024. Fury has lost two of his last three fights against the Ukrainian master Oleksandr Usyk.

Anthony Joshua’s two-fight 2026 deal has been announced, with Deontay Wilder once again not part of the Briton’s plans, despite a resurgence.

Wilder’s team have now reacted to the news that Joshua will instead face Kristian Prenga before a fight with Tyson Fury at the end of the year.

‘AJ’ was called out by Fury following the latter’s triumph over Arslanbek Makhmudov two weeks ago, but he refused to publicly agree to the long-awaited showdown without a warm-up fight or fully negotiated deal.

Since then, another of Joshua’s long-term rivals, Wilder, has been linked as a possible summer opponent, in order to prepare him for a clash with ‘The Gypsy King’. However, on Monday, it was instead confirmed that the two-time world champion will face lesser-known Albanian, Prenga, in a lower risk return.Deontay Wilder

In an interview with Sky Sports Boxing, Shelly Finkel, who manages ‘The Bronze Bomber’ revealed that he is neither disappointed or surprised by Joshua’s opponent, simply summing up the situation as the ‘same old story’.

Whilst Hearn may not have made an approach for a fight with Wilder, he is targeting a scrap against the former WBC heavyweight world champion for one of his other heavyweight contenders – Jarrell Miller.

As for Joshua, he will take on Prenga on Saturday, July 25, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, looking to tee up one of the biggest fights in British boxing history.

The fight, billed as “The Comeback,” will headline an event linked to the Esports World Cup Festival and will be broadcast live worldwide on DAZN.

It will be Joshua’s first appearance since he survived a fatal car crash in December 2025, which claimed the lives of two of his close friends.

The July contest also marks his first fight since his knockout victory over Jake Paul in December.

Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh announced on Monday that the bout would form part of the Esports World Cup event.

He has also signed a new two-fight deal with Riyadh Season, with the second bout expected to be the long-awaited clash against Tyson Fury later this year.

A successful outing against Prenga could set up the November showdown with Fury.

Speaking on his return, Joshua said he used the break to rebuild and prepare for his comeback.

He said: “It’s no secret I’ve taken some time to consolidate and rebuild to be ready for stepping back into the ring, and today is the next step on that journey.

“I’m delighted to have agreed a multi-fight deal starting with July 25th in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I’m looking forward to competing and picking up where I left off.

“As I said, the landlord will collect his rent.

“That is certain.”

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua finally have a real target window. The long-delayed British heavyweight fight is reportedly set for late 2026, but Joshua first has to get through Kristian Prenga, on July 25, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

According to Ring Magazine, Joshua will face Prenga at an event billed as “The Comeback,” before moving toward Fury in the fourth quarter of the year. Saudi boxing figure Turki Alalshikh, also pushed the bigger news on X, writing, “To my friends in Great Britain, it’s happening. It’s signed.”

Joshua enters the Prenga fight at 29-4. He is an Olympic gold medalist for Great Britain and a former two-time unified heavyweight champion, but the last few years have been rough terrain. He lost to Daniel Dubois in September 2024, knocked out former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou earlier that year, and beat Otto Wallin in 2023.

Prenga is not the name fans were waiting for, but the risk is obvious enough. The Albanian heavyweight is 17-1 and has won 13 straight fights by knockout or TKO. Joshua should be the clear A-side, but heavyweight boxing has a cruel sense of humour when someone looks too far ahead.Anthony Joshua & Tyson Fury

Fury brings his own messy road into this. He beat Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 to become unified heavyweight champion, later built his defining trilogy with Deontay Wilder, then lost twice to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024. After another retirement turn, Fury came back on April 11 and beat Arslanbek Makhmudov by wide decision in London.

That is why this fight still matters even after years of delays. Fury and Joshua were the two biggest British heavyweight stars of their era, yet belts, losses, rematches, retirements, and boxing politics kept pushing them apart. Now the door is open again, but Joshua cannot trip over Prenga on the way in.

If AJ wins in July, Fury vs. Joshua becomes the late-2026 monster fight boxing has been teasing forever. If he loses, the whole thing goes back into the heavyweight swamp, and nobody needs another chapter of that nonsense.

David Price suspects one fighter has regressed more than the other as Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua inch closer towards their long-awaited showdown.

While an official announcement is yet to emerge, the pair are nonetheless expected to lock horns in November, as per the terms of Joshua’s proposed two-fight contract.

This deal was offered by Turki Alalshikh ahead of Fury’s comeback fight, which saw ‘The Gypsy King’ unanimously outpoint Arslanbek Makhmudov earlier this month.

For Joshua, though, it appears there are still several I’s to dot and T’s to cross before he agrees to enter a comeback fight of his own.Tyson Fury

Following the tragic car crash that took the lives of his two close friends in December, ‘AJ’ has not fought since engineering a sixth-round finish against Jake Paul that same month.

As a result, the 36-year-old is due to enter a warm-up fight in July, by which time he is expected to have fully healed from the physical injuries he sustained in Nigeria.

According to Olympic bronze medallist Price, however, there is a chance that Joshua has not completely recovered from his fifth-round stoppage defeat to Daniel Dubois in September 2024.

Speaking with Pro Boxing Fans, Price explained that this could put the Londoner in a vulnerable position against Fury, whose last elite-level contest saw him lose a unanimous decision to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024.
