Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are projected to earn approximately $100 million (£75m–£100m+) each for their single, long-awaited heavyweight showdown.

This fight is considered the biggest in British boxing history, likely to be staged in the Middle East with a 50-50 purse split for the first fight.

The fight will hold in the fourth quarter of 2026 with the announcement coming from Saudi power broker Turki Alalshikh on Monday afternoon.

After several false starts, most notably in 2021 when the two men both signed a two-fight deal only to have the plan scuppered in a courtroom by Deontay Wilder, there are no longer any barriers.

You would be hard pressed to argue this fight is not happening five years too late – back then both Fury (35-2-1) and Joshua (29-4) were at the peak of their powers and both held world heavyweight titles. Then it would have been an absolute undisputed humdinger for all the marbles.

“The Gypsy King” has earned an absolute fortune and the right to spend a happy retirement on the Isle of Man with wife Paris and their seven children. There was only one bout, which had enough meat to tempt him back to the table – that long-awaited Joshua showdown.

For AJ too this is the perfect retirement plan, it comes hot on the heels of his £50million payday for knocking out YouTuber Jake Paul.

Joshua of course has had other issues to deal with in recent months – notably the tragic car crash, which claimed the lives of two of his closest friends and team members in Nigeria in December. AJ would escape relatively unharmed from a physical perspective, but who can know the mental scars which may remain.

AJ will himself have a warmup fight ahead of his meeting with Fury, and his team have taken no chances with the choice of opponent. He will face little-known Albanian Kristian Prenga (20-1) in Riyadh on July 25.

Make no mistake, Joshua vs Prenga is not intended to be a stiff test for AJ, it is a tune-up with little risk, this is no time to fumble that enormous bag.

Fury is a slight 4/7 favourite with AJ a 7/5 underdog as that massive showdown looms later this year and it is a fight laced with danger for both men.

Joshua was a defensive disaster waiting to happen when he was blasted out of Wembley Stadium by Daniel Dubois in his last major heavyweight outing in September 2024. Fury has lost two of his last three fights against the Ukrainian master Oleksandr Usyk.

Anthony Joshua’s two-fight 2026 deal has been announced, with Deontay Wilder once again not part of the Briton’s plans, despite a resurgence.

Wilder’s team have now reacted to the news that Joshua will instead face Kristian Prenga before a fight with Tyson Fury at the end of the year.

‘AJ’ was called out by Fury following the latter’s triumph over Arslanbek Makhmudov two weeks ago, but he refused to publicly agree to the long-awaited showdown without a warm-up fight or fully negotiated deal.

Since then, another of Joshua’s long-term rivals, Wilder, has been linked as a possible summer opponent, in order to prepare him for a clash with ‘The Gypsy King’. However, on Monday, it was instead confirmed that the two-time world champion will face lesser-known Albanian, Prenga, in a lower risk return.Deontay Wilder

In an interview with Sky Sports Boxing, Shelly Finkel, who manages ‘The Bronze Bomber’ revealed that he is neither disappointed or surprised by Joshua’s opponent, simply summing up the situation as the ‘same old story’.

Whilst Hearn may not have made an approach for a fight with Wilder, he is targeting a scrap against the former WBC heavyweight world champion for one of his other heavyweight contenders – Jarrell Miller.

As for Joshua, he will take on Prenga on Saturday, July 25, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, looking to tee up one of the biggest fights in British boxing history.

The fight, billed as “The Comeback,” will headline an event linked to the Esports World Cup Festival and will be broadcast live worldwide on DAZN.

It will be Joshua’s first appearance since he survived a fatal car crash in December 2025, which claimed the lives of two of his close friends.

The July contest also marks his first fight since his knockout victory over Jake Paul in December.

Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh announced on Monday that the bout would form part of the Esports World Cup event.

He has also signed a new two-fight deal with Riyadh Season, with the second bout expected to be the long-awaited clash against Tyson Fury later this year.

A successful outing against Prenga could set up the November showdown with Fury.

Speaking on his return, Joshua said he used the break to rebuild and prepare for his comeback.

He said: “It’s no secret I’ve taken some time to consolidate and rebuild to be ready for stepping back into the ring, and today is the next step on that journey.

“I’m delighted to have agreed a multi-fight deal starting with July 25th in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I’m looking forward to competing and picking up where I left off.

“As I said, the landlord will collect his rent.

“That is certain.”

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua finally have a real target window. The long-delayed British heavyweight fight is reportedly set for late 2026, but Joshua first has to get through Kristian Prenga, on July 25, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

According to Ring Magazine, Joshua will face Prenga at an event billed as “The Comeback,” before moving toward Fury in the fourth quarter of the year. Saudi boxing figure Turki Alalshikh, also pushed the bigger news on X, writing, “To my friends in Great Britain, it’s happening. It’s signed.”

Joshua enters the Prenga fight at 29-4. He is an Olympic gold medalist for Great Britain and a former two-time unified heavyweight champion, but the last few years have been rough terrain. He lost to Daniel Dubois in September 2024, knocked out former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou earlier that year, and beat Otto Wallin in 2023.

Prenga is not the name fans were waiting for, but the risk is obvious enough. The Albanian heavyweight is 17-1 and has won 13 straight fights by knockout or TKO. Joshua should be the clear A-side, but heavyweight boxing has a cruel sense of humour when someone looks too far ahead.Anthony Joshua & Tyson Fury

Fury brings his own messy road into this. He beat Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 to become unified heavyweight champion, later built his defining trilogy with Deontay Wilder, then lost twice to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024. After another retirement turn, Fury came back on April 11 and beat Arslanbek Makhmudov by wide decision in London.

That is why this fight still matters even after years of delays. Fury and Joshua were the two biggest British heavyweight stars of their era, yet belts, losses, rematches, retirements, and boxing politics kept pushing them apart. Now the door is open again, but Joshua cannot trip over Prenga on the way in.

If AJ wins in July, Fury vs. Joshua becomes the late-2026 monster fight boxing has been teasing forever. If he loses, the whole thing goes back into the heavyweight swamp, and nobody needs another chapter of that nonsense.

David Price suspects one fighter has regressed more than the other as Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua inch closer towards their long-awaited showdown.

While an official announcement is yet to emerge, the pair are nonetheless expected to lock horns in November, as per the terms of Joshua’s proposed two-fight contract.

This deal was offered by Turki Alalshikh ahead of Fury’s comeback fight, which saw ‘The Gypsy King’ unanimously outpoint Arslanbek Makhmudov earlier this month.

For Joshua, though, it appears there are still several I’s to dot and T’s to cross before he agrees to enter a comeback fight of his own.Tyson Fury

Following the tragic car crash that took the lives of his two close friends in December, ‘AJ’ has not fought since engineering a sixth-round finish against Jake Paul that same month.

As a result, the 36-year-old is due to enter a warm-up fight in July, by which time he is expected to have fully healed from the physical injuries he sustained in Nigeria.

According to Olympic bronze medallist Price, however, there is a chance that Joshua has not completely recovered from his fifth-round stoppage defeat to Daniel Dubois in September 2024.

Speaking with Pro Boxing Fans, Price explained that this could put the Londoner in a vulnerable position against Fury, whose last elite-level contest saw him lose a unanimous decision to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024.

Eddie Hearn has revealed key discussions with Oleksandr Usyk ahead of Anthony Joshua‘s return to the ring.

Joshua was last seen exchanging verbal blows with Tyson Fury earlier this month, shortly after ‘The Gypsy King’ ended his 16-month layoff with a points victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov.

Instead of granting his rival’s request for a face-off, though, Joshua decided to remain seated and criticise the 37-year-old’s lacklustre performance.

Since then, it has been revealed that ‘AJ’ and his promoter, Matchroom boss Hearn, have been offered a two-fight deal by Turki Alalshikh, culminating in a long-awaited clash with Fury later this year.

While having not fought since his sixth-round finish over Jake Paul in December, the 36-year-old has also been recovering – both physically and mentally – from the tragic car crash in which he was involved that same month.

The incident in Nigeria took the lives of his two close friends, while ‘AJ’ was believed to have sustained several injuries.

But he has, of course, returned to training camp with unified heavyweight champion Usyk, who has played a key role in not only Joshua’s rehabilitation but also the discussions for his next fight.

Speaking with IFL TV, promoter Hearn gave an insight into the Ukrainian’s insistence on a comeback fight, before the Londoner finally collides with Fury.
It would seem that the full extent of Joshua’s recovery process has not been documented, hence why his team is particularly keen for him to face a less established name than Fury.

Tyson Fury’s manager, Spencer Brown, has insisted that his client wants another warm-up fight ahead of a long-awaited clash with Anthony Joshua.

“The Gypsy King” returned to action earlier this month, outpointing Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in his first fight in 16 months.

In the immediate aftermath, Fury called on Joshua to face him in a bout that had been over a decade in the making.

Fury claims to have signed his side of the deal, while Joshua is still considering a two-fight offer from Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh.

The proposed framework would see Joshua take part in a tune-up fight in July before a potential showdown with Fury in November.

“We’ve signed; we’re just waiting—we’re ready to go,” Brown told the Goldstar Promotions social media team.

“The thing is, Tyson has been out of the ring for a long time. So we’d probably want another fight before the AJ fight—a proper warm-up—and then we’re ready to go.

“We’ve got an exclusive partnership with Netflix. As you can see, Tyson is doing ‘At Home with the Furys’. His last fight was broadcast by Netflix, and I would expect his future fights to be as well.

“We’re just waiting for Anthony and Eddie Hearn to sign. But it would be good to have one more fight. If that happens in July, then the Joshua fight may have to wait until November or December, so things will need to move quickly.”

Alalshikh is expected to monitor both fighters closely during their stay-busy bouts, given past disruptions to major matchups.

Proposed high-profile fights such as Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder and Devin Haney vs Ryan Garcia II previously collapsed after one of the fighters failed to win their respective warm-up bouts.

Dillian Whyte believes a battle between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder – two monstrous punchers – would end in emphatic fashion.

The pair were first in negotiations for an undisputed clash in 2018, back when Joshua had unified the division with a unanimous points victory over Joseph Parker.

‘AJ’ was just two fights removed from his compelling battle with Wladimir Klitschko, which saw him claim the IBF and WBA world titles after engineering an 11th-round finish.

Wilder, meanwhile, had just secured a career-best victory over Luis Ortiz, who gave a titanic effort but ultimately found himself on the receiving end of a 10th-round stoppage.

But then, after talks for the Joshua fight collapsed, the American entered his first encounter with Tyson Fury, retaining his WBC world title following a controversial draw.

Joshua, on the other hand, was relieved of his belts in 2019, when Andy Ruiz Jr scored a monumental upset by dethroning the champion with a sixth-round finish.

This seemed to put the nail in the coffin of a potential clash with Wilder, who would later suffer a punishing seventh-round stoppage defeat to Fury in 2020.

There were, however, multiple attempts to revisit their matchup down the line, with the pair still refusing to rule out a possible encounter.

In terms of who would win, though, former world title challenger Whyte has suggested one potential outcome to iFL TV.

Whyte defeated Joshua as an amateur, but later suffered a seventh-round stoppage defeat to the Olympic gold medallist in 2015.

Anthony Joshua is in search for a July opponent in order to best prepare him for a proposed showdown with Tyson Fury in November.

Fury returned to the heavyweight scene after a 16-month layoff, outboxing Russian powerhouse Arslanbek Makhmudov in a decision win at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to score a first victory since 2023.

In the aftermath, ‘The Gypsy King’ piled pressure onto ‘AJ’, demanding that he signs to fight him next, hoping to disrupt Joshua’s plans for an outing against an alternate foe this summer.

However, the Watford-born operator refused to dance to Fury’s tune and seems poised to stick to his original plan – fight in a ‘warm-up’ in three months’ time before a long-awaited meeting with ‘The Gypsy King’ towards the end of 2026.

As a result, there are a host of heavyweights hoping to secure a lucrative affair with Joshua, whose only fight since a devastating 2024 defeat to Daniel Dubois came against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul last December.

Francis Ngannou lost to Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua in 2023 and 2024, respectively, but believes their potential showdown would make for a “great fight”.

The former UFC champion made his professional boxing debut against Fury, losing a highly-contentious split decision after flooring his man in the third round.

Indeed, Ngannou exceeded the majority of expectations while Fury, in equal measure, did not perform to his usual standard over 10 rounds.

He did, however, manage to produce a far more impressive display in his following outing, only to suffer another 10-8 round and, this time, lose a split decision to Oleksandr Usyk.

After losing their immediate rematch, too, Fury then decided to spend 16 months out of the ring before unanimously outpointing Arslanbek Makhmudov earlier this month.

Joshua, meanwhile, had defeated Ngannou far more emphatically – orchestrating a thunderous second-round finish – before suffering a fifth-round stoppage defeat to Daniel Dubois.

Since losing to Dubois in September 2024, ‘AJ’ has completed just one assignment, a sixth-round finish over Jake Paul last December, as he now looks to enter another fight before finally facing Fury.

With their all-British heavyweight clash slated for November, Ngannou has told several media outlets, including FightHype, that he believes both competitors are still of an “elite” standard.

Despite not giving a clear prediction, Ngannou’s effort to highlight Fury’s “tricky” style suggests that he could be leaning towards a ‘Gypsy King’ victory.

In any case, Joshua must now finalise a two-fight deal with Turki Alalshikh in order to collide with his long-time rival later this year.
